I have a Samsung LN-R 408 DX/XAA - LCD TV built in 2005. I had the dreaded “clicking” every 30 seconds, with no picture or sound. I had a new thermister soldered in and that worked for about a month. I finally got a new power supply board unit (BN97-00457E) off Ebay from ElectroParts about a year and a half ago. A month ago, when I turned the TV on, it would have this really loud distortion screeching of the sound of whatever channel was on. I could hit the side of the TV to fix it. Or, wait a few minutes, when it would get even louder for a minute, then fix itself. Now it takes longer and longer to fix itself. And hitting the TV doesn’t always work. Once it fixes itself, it’s fine, until I turn on the TV the next time. I disassembled the TV looking for a loose speaker wire, but couldn’t find any problems. ElectroParts says I probably need to get a new power supply board but that doesn’t sound like a problem that is fixed by hitting the side of the TV. Does anyone have any experience with something like this? Thank you.
@dbk could be a power board issue but try a different output first. see if you can connect a sound boar or even headphones and listen. If that fixes it it’s your speaker. If it doesn’t. I’ll be looking at a new main board first since that is where the audio IC is which could possibly be that cause for this.
