Chosen Solution

I am currently attempting to back everything up onto an external drive before it potentially dies but I’m hoping to resolve the problem. So far I: 1 Took battery in and out. Firstly I, disconnected the power cable. Then I took out the battery. Pushed on the power button for five seconds and then replaced the battery and power. This worked but then I shutdown my computer and when I powered it on again I was back to square 1. 2 Set System Preference Energy Saver Sleep Mode to never. This had no bearings on the screen. 3 Safemode boot 4 Brightness adjustment. Moving F1/F2 up and down I got a temporary screen. There hasn’t been any flickering. It’s either on/off. I’ve been able to transfer files to an external using a torch (arduous work). When I power it on it does tend to be noisy. The power tone can still be heard. Would a screen replacement be the best thing? I’ve been pricing them on Ebay. There’s a “LCD LED Screen Display Glass for Apple MacBook 13” 2008" for 20 dollars but this is just the glass, right. What should I be ordering, a full display screen? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

sausagepup, the very first thing after backing up your files, is to hook up an external moniotor and see what it does. This will ensure that your GPU and its circuitry is okay. “Moving F1/F2 up and down I got a temporary screen.” “It’s either on/off.” could be a bad inverter. I’d start with that. It’s a lot cheaper and easier than a new display. Here are the guides to work on it.
