Chosen Solution

Hello, Long story short (see below if you want the history), the display in my wife’s 2019 iMac (A2115) - the 27" Retina 5k display - is not working and I’m not sure how to troubleshoot it. For the background, this system has the Fusion drive setup. I replaced the 1TB rotational hard drive over the weekend with a new 2TB SSD [the kit from iFixit], and restored the data from Time Capsule backup (using the Migration Assistant option after installing the latest OS). Everything with the swap went fine. But, it seems that the restoration didn’t work as expected. The data that was restored was a few months old and apparently we have a backup issue that we need to figure out. The backups were set to automatic, to an external USB 5TB WD drive; however, it seems it only restored up to the last full backup around May, and much of her data was missing. To quickly get her back up and running, I put the old rotational drive back in and booted, and it seems that when I did this, as the cables to the display were still connected and the system was standing up-right, the screen fell forward a bit, yanking the cables from their connectors. I caught the screen and there is no visible damage to it. Needless-to-say, the display is no longer displaying anything. I tried to re-seat the two connectors several times without luck. To get this temporarily resolved, I ran out to Best Buy and purchased the USB-C to HDMI adapter and connected another external display, and thankfully she could get to her data. (She’s a wedding photographer and needed the most recent set of pictures she was working on for the client, today.) I’m guessing that when the cables got ripped out of their sockets, something must have broken or a pin on one of the connectors got bent. I can’t figure that out - the connectors are very tiny and hard to see the pins. I know that I can get another internal display cable, but I’m wondering what the likelihood is that this will resolve my issue. Hopefully there’s no damage to the connector [on the iMac board] and it’s only the display cable itself. I appreciate any thoughts.

I bought a gently used cable on eBay and that resolved the problem. I looked at the old cable under a microscope and see that two of the pins on one side (the end that connects to the motherboard) were bent. Problem solved and thanks for the replies. Thankfully there was no other damage.
