I replaced the cracked display on my MacBook Pro with a new one, however now the display won’t come on. The computer comes on and chimes and appears to be running but the display is off. The light in back is off. Looks like no power. I thought I was super careful when unplugging and plugging into the dock. Is the display faulty? Did I damage the dock? Something else? How do I find out?
While Louis’s answer is good let get to basics. Have you hooked it up to an external monitor to see if it is generating a video signal? What was the source of your replacement part?
Take the bottom cover off the computer, and read me the 820 number of your board. Most likely you blew a backlight fuse by not unplugging the battery. Have a multimeter handy so we can measure the fuse. I’ll tell you where it is when I have the 820 number, it is on a different space for each board. update Backlight Fuse
The prospect of logic board repairs seemed a little above my skill level so I took it to the Apple Store for a diagnosis. Of course they wanted to replace the logic board, but the total cost including labor was $310 so I decided to go with it. I didn’t think I could do better even If I found the problem. So hopefully I will have a working display again in a week or so. Thanks for trying to help.
