Hello. I recently opened up my iMac 13,1 21.5" late 2012 to upgrade the ram as well as exchange the HHD with SSD. When I put everything back together and try to boot up all I hear is the chime but the display does not turn on. Any suggestions before I open it up again? Thanks. Update (09/20/2016) Update: I took the iMac to a Mac repair shop here in Austin. They said I most likely shorted out the logic board installing the new ram. Apparently iMacs don’t like being upgraded. The shop won’t even upgrade the ram because of this. So now I sit here with a dead computer, an SSD, and new ram that are totally worthless. Thanks OWC!
Did you replace the hard drive or add an SSD card to the logic board? How was the drive formatted and system installed? What are the diagnostic LEDs telling you? Was it this SSD? iMac Intel 21.5" EMC 2544 Blade SSD Replacement
Hello, My first suspect with be the RAM. The RAM most likely is not compatible with the system. Try the old RAM with the SSD drive and see if the system works. Update (09/17/2016) Like Mayer said, how is the new hard drive formatted? Did you install the OS correctly? If you have your time machine backup, then try and reformat the hard drive and reinstall the OS then use your time machine to restore your files back.
