Hi Guys, So I have taken apart my PS4 Slim disk drive in order to diagnose it’s malfunction. The problem was that the disk was not spinning inside. Upon closer observation I saw that the disk was not spinning because it is rubbing on the metal parts from the disk frame. (see attached photo)
When I would lift the disk just slightly, it would spin. Next, I cut a few pieces of thick paper in order to elevate the disk. This way it spins, and and the PS reads the disk, however it cant read it all the way. When the laser gets to the end of the cd it has trouble focusing and I get an error message on the screen. I also noticed the disk motor to have a little bit of vertical play. Is this normal? Either way, does anyone have a solution to this problem? One would be to try and bend the frame, second to maybe replace the motor. Thanks, Stefan
Issue resolved. Took out the drive and manually pressed the disk motor little higher. It does not rub now and it reads the cds completely. New issue came up though, because I have shortened the distance between the magnetic disc that falls from the top on the cd it is now rubbing somewhere. So I’ll play around to find the sweet spot.
