Was trying to discover why just purchased working power supply for A1278 doesn’t charge the battery, following the hints here disconnected the battery, Macbook still dark no sound, no display. Tried all recommended here combinations, decided to check power board (was advised), but by mistake polled out Display data connector and for two days cannot figure out how to put it back. Looked at several pictures displaying how to pull it out, but I cannot figure out how to put it back. Any help greatly appreciated. Trying to do it myself, had quite a lot of experience with replacing drives, memory, other stuff, but got stuck here. No money to spend on repair shop, the cost of repair would damage my budget considerably, hope to overcome the problem. with your help. Don’t understand where the pins on the cable connector go into the on- board connector! Update (08/03/2017) It says “Post my answer”, but it’s still my question I’ve made some pictures from different angles an still don’t understand (probably getting old) how this strange (for me) plug on the end of the cable fits into the connector on the board. All the answers say “straight - not up” when unplugging, so what is the direction to move the upper part - from right to left toward the connector - and then what? Sorry for being so dumb, I’m upset with myself, I’m a Mac man since Mac Plus and have done a lot of small work myself, never before I got stuck like that! Please help, I’m on small Social Security and they will rob me at the repair shop. Update (08/03/2017)
Adding another image showing the pins on the cable connector. Where do they go? Dan, you are correct, I just can’t figure out how the two parts mate Update (08/03/2017)
I’ve already sent my reply, don’t know where it went, so here I am again. I still don’t understand how the plug on the cable fits into the connector on the board. Do I move it by the flap from right to left - and then what? Push it down when I get over the connector? Sorry to be so dumb, I’ve used to do some work on my Macs pretty easily (starting with Mac Plus). Probably just getting old :) But, if i fail with that, I’m hopelessly screwed up. Please help! Great, the pictures were posted and displayed, two hours later - no pictures! What should I do??? Update (08/03/2017) Thanks, Dan! You cannot imagine how I’m upset with my own inability to figure it all out. That’s just not me. Here are the images I’ve sent before the last:
- including the last one that shows the pins on the cable. Does this pin connector go into the gap under the little brass bridge on the board connector?
Can you post a picture of what you are working with here, not sure I follow you. Did you damage the logic board connector by pulling the cable straight up? Or just can’t figure out how the two parts mate? Here’s an image of the connectors interface (click on it to get the full size):
The board connector has a slot parallel with the logic board you need to rest the cable end as shown here on the logic board and then squarely insert it (like it is shown in the image) into the slot (the image shows it at an angle for clarity). The wire bale which has the tape pull on it, is then folded over counter-clockwise from this perspective so it’s resting on the far left side of the connector. Very little pressure or pulling is required here. If you over do it you can damage the connector.
Go into any repair shop and say “yo, can you help me plug this in?” No one would say “no” or charge you for a little bit of help on a DIY repair.
