Hello, I’d like to replace fan on this NAS but don’t know how to take down the case without the breakage. Any ideas?
This thing has only been out two years. How old is yours, it may be covered under warranty. I am not finding any info on repairing it, no teardown, The Wiki states: My Cloud relies on air convection for cooling, without a fan. This thing looks exactly like a MyBook. If that is the case (pun intended), it should open just like this one: Western Digital My Book Mini USB Port Replacement
I haven’t needed to take my EX2 apart yet. But it does look like just a case of picking at the joint between the “covers” and “pages” on the back panel. Then sliding the U shape of the “covers” forward. Like the MyCloud, but fatter I guess. I think the HDDs don’t even technically need to come out; but probably should, especially since popping them out through the drive bay door at the top is so easy anyway. FYI, changing that fan might help with noise, but it won’t help with temp. If the look doesn’t bother you, then I’d just stick a quiet 80 or 90mm fan on the top or bottom, and power it from the USB. It’ll be quieter than the internal fan, and the HDD’s are kept cool enough so the internal fan will never kick in.
