My iPad Mini 2 with retina works great, but for about a year now it has had a cracked screen. The crack is a clean break across the face of the center of the device. Now I’m on iFixit trying to get a replacement, but I don’t understand the difference between the front panel assembly and the LCD screen. Which one do I need? The picture on my iPad is crystal clear and all pixels work fine. The only problem is that the glass itself is cracked. Do I need to the pricier LCD screen, or will the front panel assembly do just fine? Thanks, Martin
Front panel assembly is essentially just the digitizer assembly, the touch screen layer which is fused together with the glass. The LCD is not required however if you can separate the LCD from the housing of the iPad Mini without breaking or damaging it.
