hey team! ive encountered an issue. Theres an iPad im trying to fix that has an issue with actively readying the battery. if the battery is at say 54% hypothetically when i turn the device on, it will not read another battery level, but if i turn the device off, then on again, it will read a new battery level. I tried 2 new charge ports, and a new battery. I would prefer to keep the data if at all possible, though i am aware there is potential that it could be software reload time. this is my last resort, and would like to try other things (boardwork) first. Please answer if you have seen this issue before.
Hi Scott. Do you know if the battery you used to test is “known-good”? Have you checked FL7500, right next to the battery connector? It is the only thing inline between the battery gas gauge and it’s ultimate destination, the PMIC and the CPU. Normally a bad or missing FL7500 causes erratic readings but that would certainly be the right thing to check in your case. Verify it’s presence, good electrical connection and measure its resistance. At DC levels, it should read essentially zero. It only becomes resistive at high frequency to filter out noise. Otherwise, you should do a full restore to eliminate any software issues. UPDATE Hopefully for you, the missing pad is the one in the red square. You can easily jump it to the cap right next to it or the connector pin. If it is the blue circle, well then you will have to very delicately scrape the board to get some of the copper via because it connects directly to the CPU and PMIC.
