Chosen Solution How do I get rid rid of green spots showing on camera that should not be related to your battery. Sounds like a bad LCD or CMOS sensor. If you take pictures and upload those to your computer and tehy do not have the spots you know pretty much it is your LCD if they do, it will most likely be your sensor

Chosen Solution I just did this last night. The D5100 tear-down guide above was a big help. You need a tiny phillips screwdriver (like for repairing eyeglasses) and tweezers for handling all the tiny screws. A sharp pick tool is a help as well. That being said, Linux is capable of running some windows software via their WINE emulator but its very limited and not really compatible .
