Chosen Solution I’ve recently acquired an a1708 and it appears that there is something wrong with getting the fan to work. I’ve got istat menus, and manual control there doesn’t do anything. I tried an SMC reset, which started the fans at initial boot up, but then back to nothing. It’d be great if anyone has any suggestions as to what to try next? However when I turned the phone on the home button didn’t work but the finger print scanner does? You probably damaged the U10 IC on the Home Button flex. This is what make the “button click” work or not. This is repairable but requires a micro-soldering repair on a flex cable and as such, I would not recommend it as a DIY repair....

Hi, Switch off the laptop and then remove all removable hardware and then switch on and see if it at least stays on. By that I mean, remove the HDD, the ODD (CD drive) and even the RAM. You will of course get error beeps or messages on the screen but if it stays on initially you have proved the motherboard if OK up to a point....

Chosen Solution This makes it tricky to double click. Is the problem with the button or the switch/cable? A lot of these home buttons are held on by a special kind of 2 sided tape.
