Wet the button down liberally and give it a scrubbing. If that doesn’t fix it, the home button itself could be damaged. iFixit doesn’t have a home button replacement guide or even a teardown on your phone, but its similar enough to the S6 that you could follow the S6 teardown and get to the home button: Samsung Galaxy S6 Screen Replacement
Chosen Solution So I replaced an iPad pro9.7 screen and got as far as the home bracket replacement when swapping the home button back on the screen. I have tried to adhere the bracket in the same fashion it was in (the repair guide shows a different cabling than mine also). But I’ve noticed that after getting it in place the home button sinks and then will slide out from under the bracket causing it to not be usable....

Chosen Solution I’ve found a 1987 talking Cabbage Patch Kid. I put batteries in it and the mouth moves but no voice. I’m guessing the 9V battery runs one system and the 4 AAs run the other. Does the 9V run the voice box? Any ideas on getting it to work again? kathy yes, it does. Also the top fan is connected to the heat sink frame and has to be removed before not left in place until later in the process. When all instructions and screw removal is complete the keyboard is firmly fixed on the drawer side but no screws are visible!...

Chosen Solution After taking apart my PS4 to change the thermal paste and clean the fan, my disc drive accepts the discs like normal and you can hear it spinning them, but the game tile never shows up on the PS4 home screen. It seems like the disc drive isn’t actually reading the discs. (Water damage might be a factor) Smart move taking pictures and checking iCloud! Good news is that phone still works, bad news is that if you had liquid damage it may be a temporary status as metal gets eaten up quite fast after oxidizing starts....
